Oman is to develop new plans for its transport sector, which will lay out the blueprint for roads, rail, airports and ports for the next 40 years, it was reported.
The Ministry of Transport and Communication, Supreme Committee for Town Planning and other public and private sector organisations are set to formulate a comprehensive short-term as well as long-term national strategy for the transport sector, the Times of Oman reported.
The short-term plan will be up to 2020, while the long-term strategy will be up to 2040.
The ports, airports, railways and various other projects in different areas of the country will be taken into consideration while preparing the transport strategy, top officials from the Ministry of Transport and Communications said.
According to the Times report, the ministry will carry out a comprehensive study ahead of the plans.
It would also identify more private and public sector development opportunities in the transport sector, including aviation, port and railways.
